Pili-Pili has grown up! Before it was just a small warung on Jln. Merthanadi [the road that connects Sunset Road with the side of the jail].
Immaculately clean and always friendly this little Indonesian eatery has always specialized in the dishes from the owner's Sulawesi as well as doing many Javanese and Balinese standards.
Now it has moved to a larger location, next door. It is in two halves, inside with air-con and the modern serving area, whilst the outside is al fresco on the covered terrace. Open all day from 11.00 a.m., it is always busy.
New is that they also open in the early evening [till 9.00 p.m.] it then becomes Restaurant Pili-Pili, going Western, serving a range of salads [in both small and large serves], pastas [spaghetti, penne and tagliatelle], entrees [Tuna or Beef Carpaccio, Spring Rolls in an unusual curry sauce] and a variety of mains at very reasonable prices; Prawns in chilli sauce, Beef Stew [Belgian style in black beer], Steaks [au poivre or béarnaise] and Fish 'Belle Meuniere' [sesame seeds, grilled eggplant, tomato tartar but with a red wine sauce instead of the standard white wine]. It is great to be able to write about a young restaurateur who has worked hard, built a successful business in an out-of-the-way location [a street in which many have previously failed]. The attention to detail has always been to the fore, after all even as a small warung they served Illy coffee!.
Success well deserved!
