Lotus Bayview - Lombok.....

A Lotus in Lombok!

Lotus Bayview is Lombok's old faithful. Like all of the Lotus restaurants in Bali and Singapore, it uses only quality ingredients and has a menu without surprises. Start with their ever-popular Cheese Samosas or Seafood Spring Rolls, both of which come with a sweet and sour sauce. The Spinach and Cheese Raviolis are covered with a sauce of tomato and mushrooms whilst the Seafood Raviolis are in a curry sauce.

Shrimp Cocktails are always popular, liberally covered with a thousands islands dressing. The Chicken Salad Waikiki has shredded chicken, pineapple pieces and lettuce tossed with mayonnaise.

Many fresh pastas are always available, Paglia e Fieno alla Marinara is fettuccine made from spinach and egg served with mixed seafood, in a garlic, wine and tomato sauce. Red Fettuccine is a red pepper pasta with fresh tomatoes, tuna fillet, parsley and garlic. For the Vegetarians a Fettuccine Primavera, egg fettuccine with raw tomatoes, olives and capers with basil, olive oil and garlic.

As in Bali, this Lotus also does an Ayam Betutu. Unfortunately, due to an absence of local supply, it has to be kitchen prepared but it is still surprisingly good. Chicken Cacciatora is an old Italian favourite; chicken pieces stewed in a tomato broth with potatoes. Chicken Cordon Bleu is a chicken breast topped with ham and cheese.

Other Indonesian specials on the menu include a Chicken Curry n[cooked in coconut milk with hot peppers and sour cucumbers], an the Balinese Ikan Pepes, fish with spices wrapped in banana leaves and cooked over embers.

Grilled King Prawns in garlic butter, Deep-fried Calamari with tartar [a real one combining finely diced capers, onions and parsley in mayonnaise] and Pesce al Cartoccio [whole fish with herbs and spices, wrapped in tin foil before being baked in the wood fired oven, are amongst the variety of seafood options.

Their most popular Pizzas are the Peperoni, with salami and red and green peppers, and the Francesca topped with a tangy minced meat bolognese sauce with mushrooms. .

The usual professional and friendly Lotus service, a small but reasonably priced wine list and great value overall.
