Kakiang Bakery & Café is in Pengosekan, Ubud. Small, clean, fresh and nicely air-conditioned it is an Ubud first! Their interesting cakes and pastries are much more than just a copy of what you see elsewhere, very original! An excellent selection of snacks and light meals include a Chicken Ecosse [chicken breast stuffed with a mixture of camembert cheese and leeks], or pan-fried Cuttlefish that has been dipped in a coriander batter. A welcome resting spot for those who have just made it up the hill from the Monkey Forest - September 3, 2003
Kakiang Bakery & Café is in Pengosekan, Ubud. It has the distinction of being the only air-conditioned café in Ubud. It is only very small but the quality has always been very high. Renowned for its breads, pastries and cakes it also serves arguably the best butter croissants in Bali. During the recent French tourist month of August the croissants were often sold-out well before 9.00 a.m. Other snacks and light meals are also on the menu, a few of which are interesting if a little strange. A Spanish Omelette Sandwich intrigued me. Finger sized crust-less bread strips are pinned around slabs of Spanish omelette. Unusual? Tastes of the world! A Stuffed Warm Avocado is filled with a mix of prawns, squid, grapes and onions, all in a wine cream sauce. Fresh Vietnamese Spring Rolls, a Teriyaki Salad and a Chicken Breast Ecosse [stuffed with camembert and leek] are just some of the offerings at this excellent little café. Illy brand coffee, in all the usual styles, and friendly efficient service provide the finishing touches. - September 28, 2005.
Kakiang opens its new hotel, café and restaurant on Jln. Raya Pengosekan, south of Ubud, after a total reconstruction which included what was previously the next door vacant land. This very popular, always full, hotel has now doubled in size, as has the Kakiang Café at street-side as it now extends to two floors [with an upstairs terrace]. Kakiang Café is famous for its wonderful French Bakery which turns out Bali?s best croissants every morning, as well as great pastries and breads. A perfect Toasted Croissant stuffed with ham and cheese, and an Illy Coffee at Kakiang has been my constant start to the day for many years! An occasional afternoon pit stop for a decadent Raspberry Cheesecake, Pear or Mango Tart with yet another coffee only reserved for those days when the will is weak! - June 1, 2011
